Religion - South Apopka
South Apopka, a historic Negro community in central Florida, has a strong religious element in its culture. It is the moral and social glue that bonds people together. There are over 30 churches, each some form of protestant Christianity, serving a population approximating 6,000. Each church serves community functions as well as spiritual. Almost every resident acknowledges membership in some church regardless of their attendance.
I was welcomed into every church I attended. However 3 leaders that deserve special thanks: Pastor Barbara Barnes of the New Life Pentecostal church, Bishop Freddie Pringle of the Holy Ghost Headquarters of Jesus and Bishop G. H. Washington of the Temple of Faith are each special in their own way.
